Coming this December, Tampa Bay is holding its annual Gasparilla Concourse d’Elegance Car Show (GCDE). Last year’s event was sadly canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, this year they have a beautiful and spacious new venue at TPC Tampa Bay Golf Course. With their new location, keeping everyone safe and healthy throughout the entirety of the event is a priority. History of Gasparilla Concourse d’Elegance
The idea of the GCDE event came to life in Tampa, Florida in 2017. Executive directors, Brando and Joanne Pistorius started this event after two years of careful planning and receiving the appropriate tax designations as a non-profit event. The name of GCDE comes from this event being the only true Concours d’Elegance for Tampa, Florida. Furthermore, the name “Gasparilla” comes from the Tampa Bay area’s most famous social season.
Every year between November and April, Tampa’s Gasparilla festivities occur, since 1904. During these festivities, the community celebrates the legend of the invasion of pirate Jose Gasper, whether you are a believer or not. The mayor of Tampa also plays along with these legends when relinquishing the keys to the city. During this event, the cities finest business people and founding families invade on a pirate ship. This quirky and fun little activity is all held to help bring the community together, as well as to support local charities.
GCDE is now the newest addition to the Gasparilla festivities. This year’s event is helping support the charity for the Freidrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance.
What to Expect at this Year’s GCDE
At this year’s GCDE, attendees will enjoy a taste of Tampa Bay’s most delicious foods, as well as signature “Gaspar’s Grog” cocktails. This event focuses on the historical aspect with a car show that displays some of the rarest, original, and historically important cars and motorcycles. There are also vintage fashion shows, a vintage plane flyover, auctions to win items and experiences, as well as live entertainment and a red carpet ceremony throughout the 2-day event.
The Gasparilla Concours d’Elegance finishes the event with a “Nickel Tour of Tampa Bay” that welcomes all vintage and modern cars to be a part of. Furthermore, the Nickel Tour ends with a lunch at an undisclosed historic location.
Health and Safety Initiative
Since the closing of last year’s event, they are taking more precautions to ensure the safety of every individual. There are a few suggestions on the event website to help keep everyone on the same page about health and safety precautions. For example, keeping your distance from other guests, not breathing or coughing/ sneezing in someone’s direction, going outside to get some fresh air, and most importantly, washing your hands.
